 Getting stranded at the roadside can happen to anyone for a lot of different reasons. While nobody wants to be in that situation, most car owners aren’t prepared to meet this kind of emergency while driving. Although roadside assistance can be very helpful to have, it is still important to know what to do while waiting for help to arrive. 1) Move Away from the Busy Road
Most major highways set a speed limit of 65 miles per hour. And if you are blocking the road, other drivers would be quite surprised to see a non-moving car in their way. While some drivers may be able to dodge your car quickly, others may not be able to make quick decisions when driving. If you can't get your vehicle out of the course of traffic there's a good chance of hit and ending up with more damages or injuries, which is why you should always consider your safety and the safety of other motorists as well. Take the car away from the busy road as soon as possible. Go to the nearest emergency bay, if there’s any, or park your car at the side of the road. 2) Make Sure That You’re Visible Moving your car to the side doesn’t immediately mean that drivers are aware of your situation. Make sure that you are visible by turning the hazard lights on to give them an idea that you are having some car problems. As soon as you feel safe at the side of the road, take out your early warning device and place it a few feet away from the back and the front your car to caution motorists to drive slowly and avoid any collision. Doing so will not only alert oncoming cars, but will also signal your truck rescue once they arrive. 3) Always Stay Alert Even if you’ve already made your car visible at the side of the road, always stay alert. Be watchful of approaching vehicles. Stay inside your car and make sure that you and your passengers have seat belts on at all times. 4) Be Patient Be patient enough to not get out of your car from time to time. Since I usually pass by a long and dark highway, I do think that this tip is worth considering. My uncle owns a 1997 Chevy truck and while it has run really well for a couple of years it is starting to get worn down and the oil line is unreliable and he isn't sure if it is getting oil to the engine. He has been planning on driving it until it runs into the ground and making sure that he can be towed by a professional once it finally gives up on him in a couple of days would be really useful.
