Getting stranded at the roadside can happen to anyone for a lot of different reasons. While nobody wants to be in that situation, most car owners aren’t prepared to meet this kind of emergency while driving. Although roadside assistance can be very helpful to have, it is still important to know what to do while waiting for help to arrive. 1) Move Away from the Busy Road
Most major highways set a speed limit of 65 miles per hour. And if you are blocking the road, other drivers would be quite surprised to see a non-moving car in their way. While some drivers may be able to dodge your car quickly, others may not be able to make quick decisions when driving. If you can't get your vehicle out of the course of traffic there's a good chance of hit and ending up with more damages or injuries, which is why you should always consider your safety and the safety of other motorists as well. Take the car away from the busy road as soon as possible. Go to the nearest emergency bay, if there’s any, or park your car at the side of the road. 2) Make Sure That You’re Visible Moving your car to the side doesn’t immediately mean that drivers are aware of your situation. Make sure that you are visible by turning the hazard lights on to give them an idea that you are having some car problems. As soon as you feel safe at the side of the road, take out your early warning device and place it a few feet away from the back and the front your car to caution motorists to drive slowly and avoid any collision. Doing so will not only alert oncoming cars, but will also signal your truck rescue once they arrive. 3) Always Stay Alert Even if you’ve already made your car visible at the side of the road, always stay alert. Be watchful of approaching vehicles. Stay inside your car and make sure that you and your passengers have seat belts on at all times. 4) Be Patient Be patient enough to not get out of your car from time to time. Stay calm and safe inside the car until help arrives. 5) Get your Emergency Kit With so many end-of-the-world movies and zombie-apocalypse TV shows out there you may already have prepared an emergency kit in your car. If not, you should strongly consider having one. Emergency kits come in handy during a roadside emergency. Some of the essentials include water, blankets, protein bars, plastic bags, wipes, or tissue. Here at Robert Nichols Insurance Group, we offer car insurance coverage that could protect you in case of accidents and emergencies and we also offer roadside assistance services. Whether you need a battery jump start or going through a mechanical breakdown, we can help ensure that you will receive the fastest response to take your car and everyone in it to safety. This is some really good information about getting help on the road. I like that you pointed out that you should stay alerted and make sure you are still visible to other drivers. That does like an important thing to do if you want to stay safe. It would probably be smart to have a towing company picked out before you need one as well. That way, you can get help as soon as possible.

As this article suggests, whenever your vehicle breaks down or you feel something is wrong with your vehicle on a freeway, immediately turn on your hazard lights so that the vehicle behind you gets alert and will change there way away from you. Pull over to the nearest emergency shoulder available quickly and call the towing specialist.

My sister recently had her car break down on the road and had to wait for assistance in the form of her fiance for a couple of hours. I was wondering what would be best if I would need to wait by the roadside for someone to help me so thank you for mentioning that I should turn on my hazard lights so cars passing understand that I am having car problems. Next time I am waiting for roadside service, one of the first things I'll do is turn on my hazards, so people will be able to understand my situation clearly.

This is right along the same lines of information that I tell my customers down here in Arizona. I run http://www.mesatowingcompany.com and I can't stress enough how important it is to get yourself away from your vehicle when you are waiting for a tow truck. Don't sit on the shoulder when people are wizzing by at 80 mph, especially with all the text-and-drivers today.

Thanks for such helpful tips. In my point of view, we should learn some basic repairing tricks, which would be very helpful during such situations. One should give proper location to the road side assistance team, so that it became easy for the roadside assistance team to get there. My wife don't take care of her car, even she don't wash the car at a regular interval. I have to do everything. Its not the fact that she can't do it but she don't want to do it. It is a little bit frustrating for me. I wish, she could get stuck in such a situation.

It must be super important to have quick access to a towing service or roadside service so that you don't have to be in that kind of danger for too long.

It's important that you said to get away from the busy road. While driving on a busy road, the speed limit can be higher than you'd like for it to be when in crisis. It's stressful to have cars tearing past you while you fix a tire. Even today someone was pulled over on the side on my way to work, but not far enough. I was worried for their safety.

I found it interesting when you said that you should be able to remove your car in the middle of the road to prevent road problems. After moving to our current area, I experienced a vehicle breakdown because of a transmission problem, and it caused me too much hassle to think about what could be the best option to do. Thanks to this informative article, I'll be sure to contact a trusted towing company in the future to ensure the proper process of resolving the issue.

Thanks so much for the advice to make sure your car is seen to lessen the amount of danger you're in. My younger cousin just started driving and my aunt is worried about him ever needing help. She's been looking into finding a towing company she can trust if he ever needs them.

It was interesting to know that we should remain calm and safe inside the car until help comes. My friend doesn't want to be trapped in a place she doesn't know. I think it's best for her to have a 24-hour roadside assistance provider that she can call.

It's great that you talked about the safety tips while waiting for road assistance, these are really important to ensure that you are safe while waiting for help. The other day, my uncle's car broke down on his way to work, he needed to get his car towed because he did some of the safety tips mentioned in this article. Thank you for this wonderful article, I will surely apply these tips in real life and call for a trusted car towing service.

Thanks for pointing out that we need to stay visible while waiting for the towing service. As you mentioned, turning on your hazard lights will help other drivers see that you are there and have issues with your car. I will keep that in mind because my secondhand vehicle might be prone to that in the months to come. And I should even have a contact number of a 24/7 heavy duty truck towing company right now just to be ready for such situations.

Thanks for the reminder that it's important to be easily spotted when planning to get a 24/7 towing service. I want to get my car towed soon because it got trapped in a ditch in my property. One of its tires got stuck in mud and the mud started hardening due to the colder weather.
